Guided Trip to Orlando Museum of Art with Ruth Grim
Join us for a visit to the Orlando Art Museum during the Council of 101’s Festival of Trees event. Visitors will be surrounded by dazzling displays including 50+ designer-decorated trees, festive wreaths, gingerbread creations, holiday vignettes, and tabletop displays. Shop in the holiday boutique, stroll Santa Claus Lane, and enjoy live entertainment. The museum’s galleries will also be open to view permanent collections in addition to new exhibits, such as Floridiana: Vintage Treasures & Oddities from the Sunshine State and The Wild Path: Connecting the Florida We Don’t See. Your guide, curator Ruth Grim, will provide commentary and informative videos during the bus ride. Lunch will be available at the Festival Café, installed in the museum for this event.
In Floridiana, we can see more than 130 objects from the collection of Gary Monroe. These mid-century souvenirs, hotel ashtrays, rubber alligators, roadside attraction brochures — often decorative, utilitarian, or absurd — offer an unfiltered glimpse into a time when the state’s identity was shaped by tourism and fantasy.
Wild Path features 70 works by National Geographic conservation photographer Carlton Ward Jr., who founded the Florida Wildlife Corridor project. Since 2010, he has since trekked 2,000 miles during two National Geographic supported expeditions to advocate for the corridor’s protection and the recovery of the Florida panther.
Our chartered bus will depart from OMAM promptly at 9:30am and will return back by 4:30pm. The non-refundable trip registration fee ($60 OMAM members; $70 future members) covers transportation and Ruth's discussions. Participants are responsible for paying for their own admission, meals, and other expenses. NARM privileges are not offered during Festival of Trees, admission will be due upon arrival ($23 for adults, $15 for seniors (60+) active-duty military, and first responders with a valid ID).
