Beginner Non-Representational Painting Two-Day Workshop with Sylvia Gortz
Explore the freedom and creativity of non-representational painting in this fun, beginner-friendly two-day acrylic class. On the first day, students will learn the basic elements of art, including color, shape, line, composition, balance, repetition, and texture. Through simple hands-on exercises, we’ll experiment with expressive brushstrokes, layering, scraping, mark-making and geometric shapes before beginning an original painting.
On the second day, students will build on their paintings by adding layers, texture, repeated shapes, expressive lines and contrasting colors while learning how to create a focal point and bring balance to a composition. We’ll also explore the important process of editing—when to add, when to simplify and how to know when a painting feels finished. No previous painting experience is necessary.
All supplies are included, and each student will take home an original 16 x 20 acrylic painting.
