ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Allyssa Van Cuyk is a 22-year-old, multidisciplinary fine artist and illustrator. She graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2023 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration and is passionately pursuing a career in gallery painting and children’s book illustration. She loves plein air oil painting, specifically nature-centered landscapes such as beaches, mountains, and forest scenery. Allyssa strives to bring attention to the priceless beauty of nature by using highly saturated color, thick textures and bold brushstrokes, and illustrating the way light gently falls upon flora, fauna, and bodies of water. Hours of practicing plein air painting techniques has trained her to work quickly to capture the ever-changing sunlight and shadows that fall upon a landscape, as well as atmospheric perspective through use of color theory and intentionally placed soft edges.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
" This pop-up exhibition addresses the importance of public parks and beaches, specifically for the benefit of the mental health of the under-privileged, a group large in number across Florida due to the significant wage gap. Florida ranks number two of fifty states in the U.S. for income inequality, with the average income of the top 1% being over $1.5 million compared to the average income of the bottom 99% being under $40,000. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the average cost of living per year in Florida in 2023 is above $50,000 per person. I state these facts to illustrate a growing problem people are facing in 2023: we can not afford to live. This constant mental burden paired with the fact that so many social activities require the spending of money puts young, under-privileged adults in a difficult position. This is an experience that is personal to me. Something I have found, though, is that I seem to find new passion and appreciation for life whenever I am immersed in nature. This feeling is universal, which is why I feel it is essential to bring attention to the importance of public parks and beaches in Florida. Each painting in this exhibition will include scenery from Floridian parks and beaches in order to highlight the beauty that can be found in such places and encourage people to get outside and explore more. Paintings included in the exhibition will show scenery from Lido Beach, Siesta Key, Lido Key Park, and The Ringling Museum Grounds."

Sandra LaPrall
Sandra LaPrall
May 3-5, 2024
Several watercolor batik and acrylics pieces by Sandra LaPrall will be on display and for sale inside our reception gallery from May 3rd through 5th. You can meet the Palm Coast artist here at OMAM during the Ormond Art Walk from 3 to 7 pm on Saturday, May 4th.
Admission to Art Walk is always FREE, and you can ride the complimentary shuttle to visit all stops. Beer and wine will be available for purchase inside the museum.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“Bold, expressive color and texture is my goal. To capture the lush tropical vibe that is Florida. By exploring different mediums and vibrant color, I hope the viewer sees or feels the emotion conveyed in each piece. The collection is a mix watercolor batik and acrylics pieces. The batik process results in vibrant, translucent hues and texture not usually associated with watercolor paintings. It is a hybrid process that utilizes wax resists, color layering and rice paper to achieve this complexity. This bold color is also reflected in my other mediums allowing me convey that Florida lushness I feel and to impart to the viewer"

Rick de Yampert
Rick de Yampert
April 5-7, 2024
OMAM’s April pop-up artist, Rick de Yampert, will showcase two books and his collection of crow art at the April 6 Ormond Art Walk. A freelance writer, musician, artist, and lecturer, Rick’s latest book Crows and Ravens: Mystery, Myth, and Magic of Sacred Corvids was released by Llewellyn on March 8, 2024. Prior to freelancing, Rick was the arts and entertainment writer at the Daytona Beach News-Journal for 23 years. As an artist, he has taken nearly 10,000 photographs of crows, observing them in the natural backdrop of his Florida backyard. Using digital painting techniques he then alters these photographs shape-shifting them into phantasmagoric, magical landscapes. He then has the images printed on canvas for sale. Rick says, “My art is my way to visibly portray crows’ magical, mystical nature.”
Admission to Art Walk is always FREE, and you can ride the complimentary shuttle to visit all of Art Walk stops. Drinks, including beer, wine, and cocktails, will be available for purchase on the Rooftop Terrace.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“I love casting / shape-shifting / transporting the crows of my photographs into phantasmagoric, trippy and magical landscapes. All of my crow art springs from the 10,000 or so photos I’ve taken of these magical, mystical creatures in nature. In this case nature is the backyard of my home in Palm Coast, Florida, which borders on woods where I have witnessed deer, a bobcat, turtles, black racer snakes, red-shouldered hawks, squirrels, and other wildlife. I shape-shift my photos through a half-dozen digital programs, including a digital “paint” process in which the mouse is used as various “brushes” to apply colors and lines. I then have the images printed on canvas. I never use Photoshop or AI, and I never alter the shapes of the crows themselves. The forms of the crows you see in my art – heads tilted this way or that, wings a-flutter, etc. – are the way my camera captured them in nature. Crows are expressive creatures whose intelligence has been well-documented by science. They recognize human faces upon seeing them again, and they especially remember humans who have tried to do them harm, and those who have favored them. Crows make and use tools. They hold “crow funerals” for their deceased. Crows and their cousins the ravens – both part of the family of birds known as corvids – feature prominently in the myths, legends and spiritualities of cultures around the world, including the ancient Celts, the Norse and Native American tribes. My spiritual path is Pagan – we Pagans believe Spirit and Divinity are manifested in nature. Crows are sacred creatures to me – they are the living embodiment of an aspect of Gaia, the great Earth Goddess. My art is my way to visibly portray crows’ magical, mystical nature. My book “Crows and Ravens: Mystery, Myth, and Magic of Sacred Corvids” will be published by Llewellyn in March 2024. (By the way, my Audubon guide tells me ravens are not found in Florida.) While crows are known for their sense of play, watch them for any length of time and you will come to believe they always seem to be thinking, pondering, deliberating – and watching you as much as you watch them. The crows are my friends. I am grateful for their presence."
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Rick de Yampert is a freelance writer, musician, artist and lecturer. He has been following a Pagan spiritual path since the early 1990s. His book Crows and Ravens: Mystery, Myth, and Magic of Sacred Corvids will be released by Llewellyn on March 8, 2024. Prior to freelancing, Rick was the arts and entertainment writer at the Daytona Beach News-Journal, a daily newspaper, for 23 years. He has interviewed such creators as Kurt Vonnegut, Yoko Ono, Ray Manzarek of the Doors, Janet Jackson, Shirley MacLaine and many others. As a professional musician, Rick plays sitar, Native American flutes, djembe (African hand drum), tongue drums and guitar. He has performed at art festivals, cafes, yoga sessions and sacred events throughout Central Florida. He and his girlfriend Michelle Davidson, who plays crystal bowls, tongue drums and bass, perform as the music duo Wandering Spiral. As a lecturer, Rick presents programs on various spiritual topics to Unitarian Universalist churches, Pagan gatherings and other organizations and events. As an artist, Rick takes photos of crows and shape-shifts them into phantasmagoric, magical landscapes via various digital programs, including one that allows a computer mouse to be used as a "paintbrush." He then has the images printed on canvas for sale. Find Rick online at rickdeyampert.com, mistercrowart.com and wanderingspiral.com.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
“I look to create paintings that are eclectic, colorful, and inspiring. utilizing rhythmic markings, obstructed patterns, vintage ephemera, and transparent mediums to bring subjectivity into visual form. I hope to invoke introspection and personal reflection in the people that see my works. A doorway for them to lead themselves instead of me saying where they should go."
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Hi, my name is Eddie McClure. I am based on the gulf coast of Florida, and I do my best to participate in creation. “Self taught” with formal experience, I’ve spent the past 2 decades either working in creative fields or holding a close personal creative expression as a passion. Over the years I’ve found painting to be a place of repose and the most accurate medium to convey and share my multi-sensory experience as well as personal commentaries.
