Graphite Drawing of Natural Objects with Priscilla Humay

Wednesday, November 5, 2025
12:00 pm3:00 pm

Learn to draw what you see, rather than what you think you see. Objects are not just flat shaped- they have form, volume, and shadow, that is created by drawing in perspective. Perspective is an invention of the 15th Century Renaissance as a method of organizing forms in space. It creates depth and the illusion of 3-dimension on a 2-dimension surface. Its use creates a believable representation. This workshop focuses on that representational classical tradition through the use of perspective, proportion, and foreshortening. Through drawing natural objects in black on white, you will define their value gradations from lights to darks identifying form and true perspective. You will learn the visual elements of line and texture to create your final drawing. Reference material handouts will be provided and the instructor will offer demonstrations and individual guidance. There will be open discussions and dialogue. Questions and answers are welcome as you participate in open critiques. Most supplies are provided by the instructor, but students are encouraged to bring any natural objects you wish to draw and any graphite pencils you already have.
