Exploring Grisaille with Colored Pencil: Butterfly Workshop

Friday, April 29, 2022
12:30 pm3:30 pm

Please join us for a colored pencil workshop instructed by Kathi Darby, where we will explore the grisaille techniques used by artists to create a grayscale, or under drawing, for an artwork.

Grisaille can be done in actual grays or complementary colors and helps define values and composition before the colored artwork is started. We will use a quick method which will teach the various ways to do grisailles (greyscales) and allow us to complete a finished colored pencil drawing in about three hours.

No drawing experience is necessary, and this is valuable to both new and experienced artists. Instructor will provide photograph reference to draw from.

Students are responsible for supplies; please see list below. Open to participants 16 & older.

I have been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil or crayon and love to show the colors of the world in a new light. To me, nature and art are intertwined and I love to capture those special moments that feature the wildly diverse life around us. I am mostly self taught, but have had the privilege of working with very inspirational and talented artists who were very generous in sharing their knowledge and techniques. My work has hung in art museums, private collections, a wide variety of shows and venues and, most importantly. folks have chosen to buy my work and hang it in their own homes. It's humbling and I am very happy to have the chance to give back by allowing others to explore their inner artist. I believe everyone can create their own visions of the things they love and I would love to help on that journey. — instructor Kathi Darby
