X-WR-CALDESC:Fairies will be taking up residence in the OMAM Gardens as par
t of the “Once Upon A Time: The Renaissance” experience\, and we need the
communities help to prepare the accommodations. We invite YOU to craft a u
nique fairy house (as either an individual or a team) for their stay in ou
r magical gardens!\n\nTo participate\, purchase one of OMAM's official Ren
aissance Garden Fairy House Kits ($10 plus tax) in the museum gift shop. Y
ou can use your own materials to supplement your kit OR come use ou
r supplies during the Fairy House Makers Day (Saturday\, Oct. 17\, between
12:00 and 3:00pm in the OMAM classroom). \n\nEach kit contains three craf
t wood panels\, some embellishments\, a base\, and an A-frame template. Yo
u can configure your house as you wish\, as long as it fits on the provide
d base.\n\nOur fairy house garden display will be limited to no more than
20 entries\, so each fairy house has an equally visible spot. \n\nFairy ho
uses must be dropped off at the museum's front desk (during normal operati
ng hours) BEFORE 4:00pm Monday\, Oct. 19. When you bring your fairy
house to OMAM\, we will photograph it and get some details from you. We'd
love to take your photo with your house too! Each house will be numbered
and placed by OMAM staff. \n\nFrom October 21 to November 14\, OMAM visito
rs have the opportunity to vote for their favorite house. One free ballot
is given with museum admission. Additional ballots can be purchased in the
gift shop. The People's Choice Award will be announced after the Thou Art
performance on Sunday\, Nov. 15. Makers do not need to be present to win.
The winner will be contacted by staff and will receive a crystal fairy ba
ll. \n \nMakers can pick up their fairy house inside the museum from Monda
y\, Nov. 16 through Friday\, Nov. 20\, during normal operating hours.\n\n<
h4>GUIDELINES\n \nBecause the fairy houses will be displayed outdoors
for a few weeks\, we recommend using tacky glue to assemble your house an
d securing it to the base. We also encourage using materials like wood\, s
ticks\, dried leaves\, rocks\, raffia\, and other natural items\, especial
ly because magical garden fairies often forget to move their decorations i
nside when it gets windy or rainy. \n\nGarden fairies live far away from o
ur human world\, so please do not incorporate political content or company
branding in your design. OMAM staff reserves the right to decline any ent
ry that doesn't meet these guidelines. \n \nTo keep voting fair and fun\,
makers' names will not be displayed\, so every house is judged on its own
fairy charm (though makers are welcome to share their house and its number
with their friends and family).
