Ormond War Memorial Art Gallery COMMITTEE
By resolution of the Commissioners of the City of Ormond, Florida, an opportunity is afforded to residents of Ormond and Ormond Beach and the neighborhood to participate in a War Memorial honoring the men and women who served, and some of whom made the supreme sacrifice, in the second World War. The Commissioners have agreed to give a site on Granada Avenue, Ormond Beach, for the erection of a building in which will be exhibited the fifty-five beautiful oil paintings by the well-known international artist, Malcolm Fraser, who has graciously offered these paintings, worth many thousands of dollars, to the City of Ormond. This offer has been accepted by the Commissioners, provided a suitable building is erected as a permanent home for the exhibit. Plans and estimates have been obtained for the type of building required, of concrete tile block construction, fireproof and waterproof, and will include a memorial tablet listing the names of all the Ormond and Ormond Beach residents who served in the Armed Forces. A maximum of $10,000 will be solicited for the undertaking and without delay in order to meet the conditions of the gift, with the understanding that the Commissioners have guaranteed to maintain the building and exhibit as a War Memorial. A local engineer has agreed to design and a local contractor to erect, the building at cost as their contribution to the Memorial. It is intended to have the building completed and ready for opening this fall. We are confident that this series of paintings with their wealth of artistic and inspirational qualities will increase in value and public interest from year to year and will attract thousands of visitors from all parts of the country to this community. Your Committee, authorized by the City Commissioners to initiate this work, feels sure you will wish to share in such a worth-while objective as this Ormond War Memorial Art Gallery will be. We are counting on the whole-hearted support and generous gifts of ALL the residents of Ormond and Ormond Beach, thereby showing our appreciation of our honored service men and women. All checks should be made payable to the Ormond War Memorial Fund. Sincerely yours,
