What Are We Up to Lately At OMAM? We are so excited about “Sandy’s Garden!” Thanks to generous donations in memory of Sandra Fuire Baird, a longtime Museum friend and former Board President who passed away from ovarian cancer in September, 2005, work on an exciting addition to the OMAM Gardens is nearing completion. "Sandy's Garden" is being built in memory of Sandra Fuire Baird. Her wish was to create an artistically designed area in OMAM's garden where children could play and learn. With the help of the many contributors to Sandy's memorial fund, and the expertise of artists Sang Roberson, Lee Malerich and Chris Hill, "Sandy's Garden" is well on the way to completion. The formal dedication for “Sandy’s Garden” is set for November 18, 2006. Two artists, NEA recipient Lee Malerich of South Carolina, and Chris Hill of Nassau, Bahamas, are currently engaged in the sculptural and mosaic creations under construction on the Gardens' southern edge. In conjunction, the Garden Club of the Halifax Country has embarked on a project to create classroom space in the current Emmons Cottage with a brand new deck overlooking “Sandy’s Garden”. The Museum encourages school groups to schedule visits to view the new children’s garden and participate in mosaic and sculpture classes designed specifically for class needs in the Historic Emmons Cottage. Please have your class take advantage of this unique opportunity to combine an art experience with the remarkable history that the Emmons offers. Contact the Museum at (386) 676-2942 or omam78e@ aol.com to schedule a class.
