Starry Starry Night XVIII

January 11, 2008

The eighteen year Ormond Beach tradition, "A Starry, Starry Night" gallery walk along Granada Boulevard continues January 11th, 2008 from 6:00 8:00 p.m. The Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens will again co-host the event with the Casements Cultural Center and the Ormond Beach Historic Trust. Art exhibitions, entertainment and light refreshments will be featured at each location. Granada Boulevard's Metropolitan Gallery also will be exhibiting work. Gallery to gallery walks, popular in this country since the 19th century in museum districts like Boston and Philadelphia, are experiencing a surge in popularity and are now found in cities throughout the state, often on a monthly basis. Nearly two decades ago, Ormond Beach's Starry, Starry Night originators selected the title in homage to Van Gogh's masterpiece of the same name, and chose the January date to take advantage of Ormond's clear, winter nights, ideal for strolling and enjoying the evening stars.

This year's featured exhibition for the event at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum, "Expressive Abandon: Essential Order," will run through February 29, 2008. Presenting are Orlando artist Karen Carasik and Brian Taylor of Rome, Georgia.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, January 11, 2008, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

The Museum staff is happy to accommodate media outlets by arranging artist/curator interviews or photo, film, and video shoot schedules with advance notice. Contact the Museum Director or the Curator of Education and Special Events, Barbara Saunders, at (386) 676-3347 for more information.

Museum hours are Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. Seniors (60+), students and children are admitted to the Museum free of charge every day; a $2 donation is suggested for adult visitors.

The Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens is located at 78 E. Granada Boulevard (SR 40), Ormond Beach, beachside, on the southeast corner of Granada Boulevard and Halifax Avenue. Phone (386) 676-3347 for details and information.
