Paradise Lost: Environmental Choices

January 16, 2004 through February 29, 2004

Paradise Lost: Environmental Choices is a comparative exhibition focusing on the sensitive choices between progress and the preservation of our local and global environments.

Artists George Blakely, Janet Culbertson, Stephen Danko, Carl Knickerbocker, Jerry Marder, Karen Ann Patton, George T.R. Poteé, Richard Reddig, Susan Trammel and John Wilton will present works that stimulate viewer interaction and response.  From Florida's vanishing wetlands, native plants and animals, to problems that arise from overpopulation, industrialization, and the effects of irresponsible consumption, these works give a voice to the silent victim: the natural world.

When confronted by the impetus of free enterprise, sensitivity must be used and ethical considerations should be sought.

As a means of comparison, a historical photo collection depicting Florida during the early 1900's will be hung as reference to these changes.

A "Paradise Lost" Lecture Series will be held January 23, 2004, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  Please visit our Gallery Talks/ Lectures or Events Schedule pages for details.

The opening reception for "Paradise Lost" will be held at the Museum on Friday, January 16, 2004, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, as part of the 15th annual Starry Starry Night gallery to gallery walk.  Museum members, artists, their guests and the public are invited to attend.
