A Breeze from the Gardens of Persia:
New Art From Iran April 26, 2003 through June 1, 2003 In collaboration with the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts and Sciences, Forough Hosseini, and the Iranian American Society, OMAM presents 20 of the more than 70 works of art by contemporary Iranian artists which were selected for this exhibition by curators from the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art and the Tehran Arts University. "A Breeze from the Gardens of Persia" is a cultural exchange exhibition with the intent of promoting a better understanding between the American and Iranian peoples. The exhibition was organized by The Meridian International Center, Washington D.C., in collaboration with the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. Works in the collection feature such diverse media as oils, watercolors, drawings, miniature paintings and calligraphy, most of which were created over the past ten years by artists ranging in age from 20 to 50. Almost a third of the works were created by women. Modern painting styles, from realism to abstraction, are also represented in the exhibition. The exhibition and its U.S. tour have been made possible under a major grant from Exxon Mobil Corporation, with generous additional support from The Boeing Company, DaimlerChrysler AG, and The Starr Foundation, which was established by the founder of AIG. The exhibit is sponsored locally by the Iranian American Society, the Museum of Arts and Sciences and the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens.
