The Third College Challenge Biennial
Student Scholarship Award Exhibition

February 28, 2003 through April 6, 2003

On February 28, 2003, students of Flagler College (St. Augustine), Daytona Beach Community College (Daytona Beach), Florida School of the Arts (Palatka), and Stetson University (DeLand), will participate in a scholarship competition showcasing 100 works of art.

A total to $1500 in scholarship awards will be granted to 15 talented students in the following categories:

  • One $400 Best of Show Award
  • One $200 Award of Distinction
  • Five $100 Awards of Merit
  • Eight $50 Honorable Mention Awards

Twenty-five students will be selected from each college for the juried exhibition, which opens with a reception for Museum members, the artists, faculty and their guests on Friday, February 28, 2003, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Winners of the awards will be announced at 7:00pm!

Renowned artist Harold Garde is the judge for this year’s College Challenge Biennial. A seasonal resident of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and Belfast, Maine, Mr. Garde possesses extensive knowledge of the artistic process, technique and art education. His work is part of several collections, including the Bates College Museum of Art in Lewiston, Maine and the Fine Arts Museum of New Mexico. Mr. Garde is largely credited with developing and perfecting the “strappo” technique of painting. He earned a M.A. of Fine Arts and Art Education at Columbia University, NY and a B.A. of Fine Arts at the University of Wyoming.

The Third College Challenge Biennial Exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, March 1, at noon, and continue through Sunday, April 6, 2003. Museum hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Museum members, seniors (60 and older), students and children are admitted to the Museum free of charge; a $2 donation is suggested for adult visitors.
