Face It! Contemporary Portraiture by Florida Artists

September 27, 2002 through November 3, 2002

Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens (OMAM) is proud to announce the opening of its next exhibition entitled, "Face It! Contemporary Portraiture by Florida Artists", which will feature paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, video and mixed media by eighteen artists.

Says Ann Burt, Director of OMAM: "Portraits have been an integral part of part man's recorded history for millenniums. They are a pictorial documentation of current political, historical and fashion trends. This show is a continuation of this tradition, but with a more contemporary flair."

Erin Friedberg, Curator of Education & Special Events for OMAM says, "Visitors will experience portraits depicted in a variety of styles, media and perspectives. Viewers may even examine themselves when faced with the portraits of others."

Exhibiting artists (in alphabetical order) include the following:

  • Annmarie Anderson
  • Harold Garde
  • Tom Gargiulo
  • Paula Hawkins
  • Carl E. Johnson
  • Harry Messersmith
  • Ken Miller
  • Kathryn Myers
  • Barbara Perrotti
  • Donald G. Renner
  • Janet Rogers
  • Rose Ann Samuelson
  • Sara Stites
  • Sydney Tal-Mason
  • Patricia Thompson
  • Christopher S. Tuscan
  • Joulia Vitaliy
  • John Wilton

The exhibition opens with a private reception for Museum members, the artists, and their guests on September 27, 2002, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Museum reception area. Artist, Donald Renner will be painting a portrait of a 'mystery guest' at the opening reception.

Members of the press interested in attending should phone Ms. Friedberg or Ms. Burt at the Museum, (386) 676-3347, prior to the event to R.S.V.P. The exhibition opens to the public during regular hours beginning Saturday, September 28, 2002 and continues through Sunday, November 3, 2002.
