Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens' 2004 ArtReach Summer Art Camp, starts June 14, 2004, and continues throughout the summer for a total of four weeks.  The program is designed for children entering Grades 1 through 6.  Children may participate in all four weeks or enroll for individual weeks, depending on their interests and schedule.

ArtReach Summer Art Camp features small class sizes, with 3 to 4 instructors per session.  Camp runs Monday through Friday each week from 9:30am to 1:00pm.  Students should bring a snack and sun-screen.  Check out a previous ArtReach Summer Art Camp in our Art Camp Photo Gallery.

Art instructors for ArtReach Summer Art Camp 2004 include Kristina Wright, Linda King and Regina Stengel.  Barb Saunders will join the instructional staff during Week 4 as the drama instructor.

ArtReach Summer Art Camp 2004 culminates in an Art in the Atrium Exhibition at Ormond Beach City Hall, 22 S. Beach Street, Ormond Beach. The reception for the artists, their families, and the general public, will be held Friday, July 30, 2004, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Mark your calendars! Each student from every session will have at least one work exhibited.

The cost per week for Museum members is $75 per child or $85 per child for non-members.  Scholarships are available on an "as-needed" basis.  Contact the Museum at (386) 676-3347 for scholarship information.  Registration forms, scholarship applications or additional information may be obtained from the Museum staff between 10:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

ArtReach Summer Art Camp Class Schedule

Week 1 : June 14 through June 18, 2004
The American Indian: Art, Craft, and Performance - Part I
Storytelling, Craft and Environment

The "American Indian" will be introduced through story as we begin to explore the native identity through arts, crafts, and installation/scene development.  We will paint, draw, weave, assemble, and sculpt works based on our own interpretations of traditional lore.

Week 2: June 21 through June 25, 2004
The American Indian: Art, Craft, and Performance - Part II
Process and Ritual in Art, Character Development, and Performance

Through artistic production, we will increase self-awareness essential for character development.  As we become actively engaged in the creation of costumes, props, backdrops, and expressive styles of communication, we begin to shape our experience through art and performance.  This week emphasizes the response to our environments, furthering our exploration of the American Indian.  Through painting, drawing and mixed media techniques, we will explore process and ritual in art while furthering character development.  On Friday, we will end with a final performance incorporating skills learned and developed throughout the week.

See Regina Stengel's photographs of the final performance, featuring Jim Sawgrass and his son, "Wild Cat", members of the Florida Muskogee Creek Tribe.

Week 3: July 19 through July 23, 2004
Summer ArtReach Camp Olympic Games and Culture - Part I
The Arts and Culture of Ancient Greece: Olympic Origins

Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens, site of the 2004 ArtReach Summer Art Camp Olympic Games, will encourage the collaboration of campers as we learn about other cultures through the arts and games.  Participants will learn about ancient Greece through the creation of sculptures, two-dimensional works, and games.

Week 4: July 26 through July 30, 2004
Summer ArtReach Camp Olympic Games and Culture - Part II
Summer ArtReach Olympics Explores the Orient

In continuation of the Summer ArtReach Camp Olympics, campers will create two- and three-dimensional works in celebration of the Orient.  Using natural materials collected from the Museum's Gardens, we will assemble mixed media pieces combined with the use of water color.  During this week we will also join our creative pursuit and investigation of the Orient with Summer ArtReach Camp Olympic Games.
