Call to Artists: SCULPTURE
The Public Art Committee of the City of Ormond Beach, Florida
announces two separate art competitions for sculpture on the
grounds of Ormond Beach Fire Department Stations 91 and 92, each
located adjacent to major highways in the city.
DESCRIPTION:
The City of Ormond Beach is currently constructing two new fire
stations. These highly visible locations provide ideal spaces for exterior
sculpture. Each station requires the art work to be durable, easy to maintain
and made to meet construction codes for wind load, climatic conditions and able
to meet public safety standards. The budget for the project at
Station 91 (A1A) is
$35,000. The budget for Station 92 (Nova Road) is $42,000.
Transportation and installation costs are to be the responsibility of the
artist.
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:
Works can be representational, abstract or non-objective in style. Each work must be static - no kinetic or actual water features. Conceptual
or performance art will not be considered for these projects. They should
reflect and interpret the theme outlined below.
DESIGN THEME and EMPHASIS:
The City of Ormond Beach and its residents are
justifiably proud of the Ormond Beach Fire Department and its highly trained and
dedicated employees. The Fire Department is responsible for providing fire protection and
emergency medical ( EMS – advanced life support ) within the response area of
the city. Fire Department inspectors are also responsible for reviewing site and
construction plans and additionally educate classes for schools and adult
citizens about safety awareness.
In addition to their day to day tasks and
assignments, the staff of the fire department are important elements in the City
disaster preparedness and recovery team regarding hurricanes, severe storms and
other potential disasters. As such these two separate public art projects are
considered as a positive recognition of this dedication and service to the
community.
