![]() Museum Director, Ann Burt, has been Director of OMAM since 1996. She received her M.Ed. from Louis National University, Chicago, Illinois, in Abnormal Psychology Counseling. She also holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin in History, English and Sociology. Prior to her work at OMAM Ms. Burt taught middle and high school English and History for the Volusia County School District, Florida, and schools in Racine, Wisconsin, and Northbrook, Illinois. She was also Curator of Education for The Museum of Arts and Sciences, Daytona Beach, Florida, and a counselor at the TRY Treatment Centers. She has also been Volunteer Coordinator in the Volusia County, Florida, area for many art festivals and fund-raisers, such as "Puttin' on the Ritz", and serves as President of the Board of Trustees for local public television station, WCEU, as well as a board member for the Stewart Marchman Treatment Center. As Director of OMAM she and the Executive Board are responsible for the development and monitoring of the annual budget; overseeing all aspects of exhibitions (selections, scheduling, invitations, publicity, installation and related programs); networking with other museums to find artists, workshop opportunities and traveling exhibitions; overseeing publication of the newsletter; expanding use of The Museum by community organizations; maintaining a good relationship with the press; attending all Museum functions; overseeing and scheduling staff and speaking to civic organizations as a representative of The Museum. Ms. Burt was awarded the "Outstanding Young Professional" award in 1999 by the Florida Association of Museum Directors. Chosen from among 80 art museum directors, Ms. Burt was responsible for increasing membership by 300%, increasing the annual budget 200% and implementing outreach programs, children's classes and a summer art camp in her first three years as Museum Director. She was also instrumental in helping save the Emmons Cottage, which is now located in the Gardens next to the Museum.1
Museum Administrative Manager, Vanessa Elliott, joined OMAM in 1997. Ms. Elliott holds a Bachelor's Degree from Radford University, Radford, Virginia. She handles Museum accounting functions and memberships, coordinates the volunteer staff, answers questions and works with City, County and State personnel to further the growth of the Museum. She aids in exhibition installation, works with the exhibiting artists to provide printed material for the visiting public, and assists in fund raising events such as Petals and Palettes and the Sweetheart Basket.
Kristina Wright graduated from West Virginia University in 1999 with a BFA cum laude in Visual Art. After graduation, Ms. Wright was employed by the community art center in Morgantown, WV, where she developed the curriculum for and instructed art courses at local elementary schools in partnership with the Headstart program. She also taught courses at the community art center. In 2000, Ms. Wright was selected as a Fulbright Finalist based on the proposal she drafted to participate in an international, interdisciplinary project at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. She was awarded a fellowship by the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation to collaborate with an international body of artists, architects, and sociologists to consider and devise creative, sensitive solutions to assist in the design of the future European Quarter for the City of Frankfurt, Germany. Following the completion of this project, Ms. Wright relocated to Florida where she worked for the State of Florida in Social Services. Ms. Wright was working toward a Masters degree in Architecture at the University of Florida prior to starting at OMAM. Ms. Wright looks forward to developing new educational programs and becoming involved in the community. As Curator of Education and Special Events for OMAM, she is responsible for developing and administering Museum programs, exhibition design and installation, creating educational material for exhibitions and Museum activities, serving as Press Contact for upcoming events, and assisting with collection management, fund-raising activities and grant writing. Ms. Wright teaches studio art classes to ArtReach Summer Camp students, grades one through six, and the "Young Artists" program at Osceola Elementary School.
Museum Weekend Liaison, Linda King joined OMAM in 1997. Ms. King holds a BFA (Graphic Design major) from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is a certified local art teacher for kindergarten through twelfth grades. Ms. King teaches children, teen and adult Saturday Art classes at the Museum in addition to the ArtReach Summer Camp. 1The Orlando Sentinel, Linda Creesy reporting, October 10, 1999.
